16/04/09 History of D'Angibau LLP by Roger Turner

As senior partner, I have become the unofficial historian of the firm.

What is known as D'Angibau LLP is in fact the result of mergers of three local firms. The oldest was D’Angibau & Malim founded in 1891 in Boscombe by Mr William D’Angibau. Three years later a Mr Willmot set up his own practice opposite in Boscombe Arcade and later went into partnership with a Mr East to form Willmot & East.

Walker & Hinds was founded in the 1950’s when Ralph Hinds joined forces with Jimmy Walker and opened offices in the centre of Bournemouth.

D’Angibau & Malin merged with Walker & Hinds in 1991 and later with Willmot & East in 1994. The firm then became known as D’Angibau Willmot and, following conversion to LLP status on 1st April 2008, became known as D’Angibau LLP.

From time to time I shall give readers a “blast from the past”. This month’s item is a photo of the original Mr William D’Angibau taken some time before the First World War in Hawkwood Road, Boscombe. Many of the horses used before the arrival of the motor car were stabled in Roumelia Lane.
